Privacy policy

Short version: we collect what you type into a form or the audit tool, plus the standard server logs every website keeps. We use it to reply to you, to run and improve the audit tool, and to prevent abuse. We do not sell it, we do not run advertising trackers, and we do not add you to a mailing list.

Who we are

This site, seo.fourcents.ca, is operated by Four Cents, 49 Thorncliffe Park Dr, East York, ON M4H 1J6, Canada. Questions about this policy go to info@fourcents.ca.

The audit tool in detail

When you enter a URL, our server fetches that page once, identifying itself as FourCentsSEO-Audit/1.0 with a link to this site, and also fetches the site's robots.txt, sitemap.xml and llms.txt. It does not log in, submit forms, run scripts or fetch anything else. The result is cached on our server for one hour so repeat runs on the same URL do not hit the site again. Each visitor can run six audits an hour. Private and internal addresses are refused. The audited page's content is not stored beyond the cached result; only the URL and score are kept in our log.

If you audit a site you do not own, the owner's server will see our request in their logs with our user agent. The tool is intended for sites you own or are authorised to assess.

Forms and email

Every form on this site is sent to info@fourcents.ca through our email provider and is also written to a file on our own server. We send you one acknowledgement email from that address, which for the audit form includes the summary of findings. There are no automated sequences. Replies to our emails go to a person. Each form has a hidden field that is used only to detect automated submissions; if it is filled in, the submission is discarded.

Cookies and browser storage

We do not set cookies. The site stores one item in your browser's session storage, the address of the first page you opened here and the site that referred you, so that a form you send later can tell us how you found us. It is deleted when you close the tab. There are no analytics or advertising trackers on this site, and no third-party scripts run on your visit.

Third parties

  • Google Fonts. The site's typefaces are loaded from Google's servers, so your browser sends a request, including your IP address, to Google when a page loads. Google's own privacy policy covers that request.
  • Our email provider carries form notifications and acknowledgements as ordinary email.
  • Our hosting provider runs the server on which the site, its logs and form submissions are stored.

We do not share your information with anyone else, and we do not sell it.

How long we keep it

Form submissions are kept as long as needed to handle the enquiry and any engagement that follows, then deleted on request. Audit logs are kept for abuse prevention and tool improvement; web server logs are rotated on a schedule. Cached audit results expire after one hour.

Your choices and rights

You can use the audit tool without giving any personal information. To see what we hold about you, to correct it, or to have it deleted, email info@fourcents.ca from the address you used and we will act on it. We will confirm when it is done.

Clients

If you become a client, the information we handle on your behalf, such as Search Console and analytics data, is governed by the written agreement for that engagement, and every account stays in your name.
